What is Plastic, Reconstructive & Aesthetic Surgery?

-Plastic surgery is the surgery of the skin, soft tissues, small bones of the hands, feet and the face & head & neck region for functional purposes as well as to achieve a more natural and younger look or appearance.

-Reconstructive surgery is the branch of plastic surgery that tries to restore function & appearance, after tumour ablative surgery, trauma or birth defects.

-Aesthetic or Cosmetic surgery is the branch that deals with modification of the body shape, size and colour for better appearance & younger looks


-Dermatologic surgery is minor procedures to remove small skin lesions and to enhance the youthfulness of the skin

-In Papua New Guinea, Plastic surgery is needed to try and restore normality after:

1. Hand trauma
2. Burns
3. Tumour ablative surgery
4. Congenital malformation or anomalies etc..
