Microsurgery is the art of surgery involving an operating microscope & microscopic instruments & sutures. The sutures (threads) are smaller than a person's hair. The techniques are used for:
1. microvascular & 'free flap' surgery
2. nerve surgery (eg. facial nerve palsy/paralysis)
3. lymphoedema (tissue swelling secondary to lymph vessel obstruction) surgery
4. eyelid surgery
5. precision skin closure to minimize scaring
